News and Notes

Lydia and I caught our first Tottenham Hotspurs game. We knew that the game vs. Manchester United wouldn't be shown on the channel our local bar has, so Saturday, as we were sitting around, I decided to see if I could figure out where we could see the game. Within aobut 10 minutes we called two of our friends in DC and decided to meet up in Baltimore at the James Joyce Pub (I think it's a chain).
And so we drove down at and only missed the first 5 minutes. Nate and Marie had already met the Scottish Man U fan. Lydia and I told him that we were shopping for teams and he gave us a half-hearted attempt at selling Man U, but we declined. Man U then beat Tottenham.
Baltimore is not as crappy as we thought. Lydia has been there more often and I think knew this, but my general impression has always been that Baltimore is a crappy city. It is not completely crappy however and (unlike Philadelphia, for example) has a nice downtown. I think. We really didn't spend that much time there.

I'm curious to hear if anyone actually watched the September 11 docu-drama. I hear that it is factually bull-sh*t and have no desire to actually see it. What was weird was seeing who backed the made for tv movie. Apparently, the director David Cunningham is part of YWAM (Youth With a Mission).
Many of us know YWAM as the friendly missionary group. Crooks and Liars entertainingly refers to it as an Evangelical Right-Wing group... that's just funny. I thought they were groups of over-zealous kids with tracts.
Anyway, I like YWAM. Several friends have worked with them and I think that they are a pretty ok group.
So, I don't know how to feel about the news that a group started under the umbrella of YWAM to supposedly influence culture (I remember the good ole days when this meant making cheesy evangelical movies that kids watched at overnighters), used their first movie to make an anti-Clinton movie that is BS.

As for today being September 11th, I'm struck by how I used to mourn this day (maybe the two anniversaries after), but now it's been so commodified and politicized that I just get annoyed by all the talk about it. Is that bad?
